MyMusic Song Review: Jogodo – Tekno, A Retro Blast Or A Complete Miss

Like we have always done every monday, we will be reviewing another song by one of Nigerians own act, Tekno. The popular ‘Pana’ crooner recently released a new tune titled ‘Jogodo’ which has gone viral since its release.

Well, Tekno also known as Slim Daddy didn’t just release a new tune but went retro in the song. As we all know, Tekno have proven himself a hit maker over the years but does this new song ‘Jogodo’ proves that title or does it fall short of our expectations? Lets find out…

The new tune reminds me so much of  an old Nigerian music Album ‘Danfo Drivers’ by Mad Mellon & Mountain Black. Danfo Drivers was a street anthem for a long time and even the lyrics stucked easily, one would easily mime to it anytime.

However the semblance between the two tunes, ‘Jododo’ comes fully packed with a dope smooth and danceable beat making it a real banger. I trust it’s already banging at the clubs.

The lyrics definitely contributed to the nice rhythm of the song. So in other words, Tekno did drop another hit song that is a complete retro blast. Yes, he deserves an accolade for ‘Jogodo’.

You can download this new tune here

Enjoy!

The Governments Is Doing Nothing To Fight Piracy In Nigeria – Tee-Y Mix Reveals

Nigeria music producer, Tee-Y Mix has revealed in an interview with Ripples Nigeria that the Nigerian government is not doing enough to protect intellectual property right owners in the country.

Speaking with Ripples Nigeria at a concert to mark the World Intellectual Property Day, Tee-Y Mix said,

“The government is obviously not doing enough to fight piracy here in Nigeria as it is done in other oorganizedclimes where you don’t infringe on other people’s intellectual property by default because if you try it, law enforcers will trail and track you.

“I know that in Nigeria, there are laws meant to protect intellectual property right owners and the creative industry at large but it is in the implementation and enforcement of such laws that the government is found wanting. I don’t fell protected as an intellectual property owner.

When he was asked about how much he has lost to piracy, the music producer said that he can’t really quantify how much he has lost because the price of creativity is not fixed. He also noted that creative people in Nigeria would have to  be well to do if theirs works are protected from piracy and bootlegging.

Speaking on the accusations by a number of musicians who belong to the older generation and have complained about copyright infringement by some younger generation of musicians, he said;

“Everything is a pointer to the fact that the enabling laws are not being implemented and if they were, most of the accusations will not end up in the media but in the court of law. One does not need to banter with a colleague or someone somewhere who is copying your intellectual property without permission. All you need do is sue the person in question”.

Rapper KEL, Questions Fans Over J Cole’s Performance and Acceptance

Nigerian popular rapper, KEL took to her twitter page to question Nigerians about their problem with Hip Hop music.

KEL born Kelechi Ohia who asked this question in a series of post on Twitter was reacting to American rapper J. Cole’s electric performance, massive acceptance, and support in Lagos on Friday, 27th of April.

While reacting to the support given to the American rapper by Nigerian fans, KEL wrote,

“After witnessing J.Cole perform last night, with a basic band and DJ, and 2 backup singers, and seeing so many people rapping along to old and new songs (KOD), I’d like to ask, why exactly do we have a problem with rap music in Nigeria?

“And by basic, I mean he had the regular band instruments; drums, keyboard, bass etc. Nothing too fancy. It was just him, the singers and a big stage with his mic stand.

“I’ve never felt so proud and plenty confused to see so many people singing along. Even J.Cole was. Be didn’t plan to do songs off KOD, but the fervor with which people were singing along urged him on. I’m talking jumping and rapping along, word for word.

“After last night, you can’t tell me Nigerians don’t like rap music, cos this album was just released about a week ago. And then he Cole performed some old stuff, which people sang along to as well with just as much, even m,ore enthusiasm

“So again, I ask, why exactly do we have a problem with hip-hop in Nigeria??? And I’m talking real hip hop? Why do we “shun” the hip-hop artists we have over here? Why do we not support and love them as much?”

These questions she posed to Nigerians have since been generating a lot of comments.

Blackmagic Drops Visuals For His Recently Released Single ‘No Need’

Off his forth coming album “Magic Republic (Version 3.0)” B.O.B Entertainment is pleased to announce the release of “No Need,” the debut single from Ejay Blackmagic.

This is not your typical romantic song but instead an exploration of the complicated layers that are such an intricate part of every love story. All so different, yet so similar at the same time.

Blackmagic’s “No need” explores the often complicated layers of a romantic relationship; unspoken pains and misunderstandings, unexpressed feelings, complicated love. An inescapable human emotion, love is not always romantic, easy or straightforward.

The song, produced by Xela has its video directed by Aje Filmworks.

Watch Video Below.

D’Banj Argues That Mr Real Won On His CREAM platform By Merit

Nigerian ace musician D’Banj has denied all allegations that Mr Real selection on his C.R.E.A.M platform was sentimental while arguing that he won on merit.

Recently, Mr Real emerged among the  winners of a competition organized by D’Banj’s CREAM Platform which have been said to be suspicions.

According to people, the selection process reeks of sentiment because Mr. Real is a close friend of the singer who is also the Founder and CEO of Cream Platform.

In an interview with Show-time, the self-acclaimed ‘Koko Master’, decided to set the records straight, as he denied the allegation. He argued that Mr. Real won the competition on merit and not because they are friends.

“I didn’t do the choosing. If you check our website we have mentors, songwriters, producers that do it. We also have videos that would soon be released on how we have been auditioning people in the studio.

We had producers such as Chopstix, Pheelz, Skales and many more. We decided to choose four winners that would be going to Dubai; two on merit and two on lottery.

The two selected on merit was based on the fact that the mentors have heard their songs and they have showcased their talents. Because his song is big now or because he is popular now doesn’t mean he doesn’t need a platform to showcase his talent.

Some might want to call him my friend, but I’ll call him my younger brother and I’m doing what Cream Platform is meant to. I’m not the one that chose the winners. Left for me I would choose more than ten people to travel”, he said.

Cynthia Morgan Charged To Court For Owing Rent

Controversial Nigerian reggae act, Cynthia Morgan who has been off the music scene for a while now is reportedly broke and facing some financial difficulties at the moment.

According to reports by Punch, court documents obtained showed that Cynthia Morgan has been charged to the Ikeja High Court for failure to pay her Omole apartment rent.

According to a source close to the apartment owner of where Cyyouia Morgan currently lives, the singer’s brother has been begging the owner of the apartment for an extended grace period even though the initial six months grace given to the artiste ended last month.

“Ever since she moved into the apartment as a tenant, the owner of the building has described her as a nightmare. She has since been given quit notice. At a point, the owner of the house didn’t even know who was staying in the flat because every day, new faces showed up at the apartment and they would leave the gate open at odd hours.

Young scary looking boys with different hair colorscome around and they smoke in the compound. They disturb the nice couple living in the flat upstairs, who have been complaining that they can’t even let their kids play in the compound because of the type of people they see around. She has owed waste bills for over a year.

They always play loud music at odd hours of the day. Funnily enough, the couple who live upstairs are also popular; the man is a very popular celebrity designer but I would not want to mention his name. His wife always complains that her home help sweeps cigarette butts everywhere all the time”

“Cynthia Morgan decided at a point that she was going to be recording in her room. When the noise was too much, the owner of the house had to talk to her about it. She has been given quit notice. The six months grace period is up and she was meant to have moved out last month. She is flat broke.

They have been pleading that they don’t have anywhere to move to neither can they come up with the rent. But it’s her brother that has been speaking on her behalf. We haven’t seen or heard from her but he claims she is always locked up in her room”

“The court papers have been submitted to Cynthia Morgan’s apartment already and she has been served a court date. She owes N1.3m. According to her elder brother, she is in the house. She was also served court papers for not paying up to N3.584m in tax. It was the agent that sued her on behalf of his client. He is a very popular real estate agent; he is like a celebrity estate agent. He’s the one that gets apartments for most of them,” the source said.

A call, however, was placed across to Cynthia Morgan’s, her representative who identified himself simply as Maze denied the fact that she owed money. He simply said, “I do not know of anything like that and I would say that it is a lie. I do not know about any court papers, so I would say that it is a lie.

To the best of my knowledge, I am not aware that she owes her landlord any money. I believe that if they claim she smokes, entertains strange guests and leaves the gate open at odd hours, they should have proof. In my book, none of this statement is factual. I don’t know about these details and I would say that it is a lie.”

No S*x For Now, I Am Focusing On My Music – Singer, Skales

Nigerian singer, Skales Born Raoul John Njeng-Njeng has revealed in an interview with Showtime that he is just focused on his music career and doesn’t have time for sex.

Speaking further, he also apologized for insulting Dontuffyplug, an upcoming artiste on intellectual theft experienced in the industry.

He said;

I’m still single to stupor, just like Falz would say. Right now, no sex for me, I’m just focusing on my music. In fact, for now I’m working on my next album.

“The funny thing is that last year, I practiced celibacy for about three months. I won’t lie, I was proud of myself. I just decided I didn’t want to have sex with any woman but after three months I couldn’t hold it anymore. You know say body nor be firewood now.

Speaking about his rudeness to an upcoming artiste,

Skales said;

“I wasn’t trying to be violent but yes, I overreacted, I admit. I’m a human being. I want to tell my fans that I’m sorry I overreacted, I’m human at times. I feel like I overreacted so it’s left to my team to deal with it because that’s a copyright infringement matter.

As an artist, it hurts when you put in a lot of work and you just wake up one day to see somebody selling what you’ve worked hard for”.

“There should be agencies and platforms that protect intellectual property and fight copyright infringement. I feel like they are really not taking it seriously so they need to start taking it seriously”.

CDQ Shades Yemi Alade?

CDQ is known for making very controversial statements is at it again as he recently switched to Yemi Alade.

As we know Yemi Alade is a singer whose genre of music is Afro-pop and this is a clear indication from her hit songs like Johnny, Bum-Bum and Nagode. But in a new twist, CDQ mentioned Yemi Alade’s name when a tweep asked if there are no Nigerian female rappers left. With CDQ’s experience base in the music industry, it would be ironic to claim that he made a mistake. It’s either he was shading her or being sarcastic. What do you think? Before now, MyMusic have featured a number of fast rising Nigerian sensational acts, all which were mostly males, today will be taking a new turn as we not only will be featuring another fast rising act but one who is uniquely female.

We are unsure of how many Nigerian Rap and Pop music fans have had a taste Rolay Bondo voice and exceptional music but isn’t that the reason we are doing this review today? Stay glued to this post to the end to find out all you can about her.

Rolay Bondo became known officially as a musician when she released her debut single, ‘New Wave’, directed by Unllimited LA, featuring one of DMW signed artist, Peruzzi.

The Judah Music Entertainment Signee showed to us all that she still has more of her talent to showcase in the future with her debut single ‘New Wave’ which is distinctly different from the kind of rap and pop music we are used to in Nigeria.

In the her single, she delivered her lines flawlessly making them rhyme rythmically in a very simple way. She sounded so confident with her voice toning the music beat.

She showed to us in her debut single how Pop and Rap genre of music can be deeply infused together to sound too good to be true to our hearing.

Altogether, Rolay Bondo is a talented artist with a bright future as she has been able to carve a nice niche for her self in the Nigerian Music Industry from the beginning of her career.

Without going too far, I hope I properly introduced to you our featured upcoming artist today, to jam, you can watch the music video of “New Wave” below;
