MyMusic Song Review: Labalaba – Tiwa Savage, Can You Still Feel The Vibe?

MyMusic will be reviewing a new jam today like we have always done every Monday. After the review you can also can give as much accolade as you want to both the singer and the song. That is, if you can feel the vibe…

Tiwa Savage better known as Mavin First Lady recently dropped her 3rd single for the year. This is coming within the space of two month. Great right? But can the vibe still be felt?

Just before she dropped ‘Labalaba’ the Mavin Queen recently blessed us with ‘Tiwa’s Vibe’, a song that has wormed its way into the hearts of many of her fans. But the question still remains, will ‘Labalaba’ do the same?

Labalaba is a smooth and lovely high tempo song that would definitely get you jamming all through the day. It talks about love, romance. Its lyrics which is sensual was delivered sensually by Tiwa Savage herself.

Her use of rhymes and rhythm tells that the song was written creatively and made to be delivered without flaws. It also features a nice mix of Nigerian pidgin and English language. She did her calculation well in that department.

Altogether, I guess we all can conclude that ‘Labalaba’ will worm its way into our heart again like ‘Tiwa’s Vibe’. Right now I am feeling Tiwa’s vibe, what about you? Can you still feel the vibe?

With this new jam, you definitely are all set to enjoy this week with a power-packed-vibe.

Enjoy!

I Stopped Visiting My Family, When They Advised I Quit Music – Mr. Real

Mr. Real, street anthem crooner ‘legbegbe’ revealed to Saturday Beats that his journey to stardom was not a bed of roses. He further revealed that his family members were hell bent on him pursuing a career in music as they saw success far away from him.

He said;

“I have been doing music for over 10 years now. But you know in life when it is not your time, there is nothing you can do about it.

All this while, I have been working and waiting on God for a breakthrough. Once God says it is your time to shine, no man on earth can stop you from shining. Before my song, ‘Legbegbe,’ I was only doing free shows. But it is a different story now.

“There was no time I thought of leaving music despite the pressure I was getting from my family members then. For me, music is part of my existence as a human and there is nothing else I can do better than music.

When I was not making money from music and things looked stagnant, my father wanted me to try other things. It was a serious issue at home. I cannot blame my father because he wanted the best for me; I am his first child. But I insisted that it was music or nothing

It was not easy to stay focused as I got frustrated by my family members. At a time, I stopped visiting family members because they were always advising me to find something better.

To them, I was wasting my time and it was high time I tried other things. I felt it was better I stop visiting because I didn’t want to leave music.”

Sadly, his father died last year and could not witness the success his son had achieved through his music career. The singer said that it was one of the regrets he has had to live with in life.

“My father is no more; he died last year. I feel bad that he is not alive to see my growth in the music industry, but I am certain he would be happy for me. My mother died years ago too.

But I have six younger siblings to look after. Though my parents are dead, other family members, who wanted me to quit music, can at least see that my consistency has finally paid off. Once you believe in yourself, the sky is your limit and nothing can stop you,” he said.

Kennis Music Is Still Relevant – Kenny Ogungbe Reveals

Founder of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, popularly known as Baba Keke, has revealed in an interview with Sunday Scoop why Kennis Music has not been active in the Nigerian music industry recently.

According to Baba Keke, there is nothing wrong with Kennis Music, insisting that he and Dayo deliberately didn’t sign any artiste in the last six years.

He said;

“Kennis Music has decided to look at another aspect of the entertainment business. We do not want to promote more than one artiste anymore. We had artistes that didn’t want us to renew their contracts and we were also not interested in working with them any longer. Jaywon is a good example.”

“We wanted to stop music promotion so that we can focus on our radio station. If we sign an artiste, we have to do promotions, take care of his welfare, do good videos and other things. We are still relevant with Joe El and we are happy with him. But this does not mean music production has ended for Kennis Music.”

Kenny Ogungbe who recently celebrated the first year anniversary of his radio station, Kennis FM, revealed he intentionally didn’t speak on the allegations that Kennis Music was cheating artistes.

He said;

“The management fees we were collecting on 2Baba was 15 per cent and they said we had eaten all his money. I heard all the things people said about us. Once you are a progressive person, they will say ugly things about you”.

Nothing Causes A Fight Between Me and Tuface – Sound Sultan

Ace Nigerian singer, Sound Sultan has revealed in a chat with Saturday Beats how he connects with fellow musician, Tuface Idibia in the most awesome manner.

While speaking,  the veteran singer who has been in the music business for decades now revealed how he settles whatever misunderstanding he has with Tuface amicably and without grudges.

He said;

“The funny thing is that there is nothing that causes a fight between Tuface and me. If we have a misunderstanding, we make fun of it and settle it. That is the beauty of our friendship.

Whenever we have a problem, we make fun of it and resolve the issue. We argue and it is more of a hobby for us but we realise that we must not always agree on an issue.

We have never had a quarrel over women or music. When it comes to music, we connect greatly with our inspirations. We connect greatly.

Money has never been an issue between me and anybody. It is not that I do not like money but I do not let it define who I am or erase some things about my personality. It is very important to uphold some things and stick by them. But for money, it will only come and go”, Sound Sultan said.

Speaking briefly on his relationship with Tuface, the iconic singer said:

“Tuface and I started in the music industry a long while ago and when we started, there weren’t too many of us in the game.

We both started in FESTAC and by virtue of that, we were always together. Back then, it was just us living our lives. We grew to understand how we connected on different levels. Nothing can stop that kind of friendship.”

MyMusic Throwback – Trouble Sleep, Yanga Wake Am – Fela Kuti

Today we will be travelling as far back as 1972 which was the very year, Legendary Musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti released his popular ‘Rofo Rofo Fight’ Album.

Fela Anikulapo Kuti who died about two decades ago is still celebrated today for  his unique musical talent as a composer, multi-instrumentalist, the pioneer of Afro beat genre of music and the most charismatic performer in Africa.

But, still today he his equally celebrated for being a political maverick and an human right activist. If history was truthful, politicians of those days tremble when they hear the famous ‘Abami Eda’ name.

Without going too far into history, the king of Afrobeat released ‘Trouble Sleep, Yanga Wake Am’ in 1972 and caused another uproar of criticism and love. The song talked about the problems inherent in the society as at that time.

Fela who believes music is not to be enjoyed by dancing alone but should drive one to think also made a lot of people reflect on their life problems.

The song was delivered flawlessly in Nigerian Pidgin. The use of the saxophone and other musical instrument also contributed to making it a really nice tune to have a blast back in the days.

Despite, Fela’s controversial nature, he was loved by many both locally and internationally as he always spoke his mind through his music or through other channels.

Well, to have a blast today, play this tune ‘Trouble Sleep, Yanga Wake Am’ and dance and … You should decide what you wanna do while you listen to Fela.

This arrangement is to present Davido as a viable brand with a view to cornering lucrative deals from multinational businesses, countries and other foreign entities.

The guys at the vanguard of the jet ownership narrative are said to have agreed on a sharing formula with Davido when the deals start coming in.

The jet upon delivery would be deployed to Davido’s peripatetic needs and those of others in need of it. TheCapital has exclusively obtained information revealing a good number of Nigerians on this membership plan but whom have been reported to be jet owners.

I Contributed To The Yahoo Boy Decay Today – Singer, Eldee Admits

Nigeria Musician Eldee has admitted that he also contributed to the Yahoo Boys decay in the society today.

Eldee who is one of many entertainer in Nigeria to react to the “Yahoo-boys” trend admitted his contribution in accordance to the recent raid of a club 57 in Lagos.

He said;

One day in 2010 while doing a red carpet interview, an interviewer asked me: “I listened to your song big boy, while I do like and enjoy the song, don’t you think the lyrics are a little misleading? I mean you’re glorifying a materialistic lifestyle…”

She contd…”How do you reconcile that with some of your previous more socially conscious music?” Without thinking deeply about what she said, I immediately responded that I wrote the song to motivate young people to be successful.

I added that I don’t understand why anyone would try to suggest a negative meaning to this amazing song that is doing so well at inspiring young people to be everything they can be.

We didn’t have time to talk any further because we had to move along quickly and do another interview and but I noticed as we walked away from that she looked disappointed.

I didn’t think much of it at the time. I mean, she fell right into the category of the “haters” I was describing on the song, so I just moved on.

There was a part of what she said though, that stayed with me and continued to echo in my head. It was the part where she asked how I was able to reconcile “big boy” with some of my previous more socially conscious music.

A few years before, I had released another successful record titled “I go yan”. I go yan is a socially conscious song that tackles the shortcomings of African leaders.

When you place those two records side by side, the contrast is evident. The more I thought about what that interviewer said to me on the red carpet that day, the more clarity I had about the contradiction.

How can I care so much about the plight of my people and at the same time promote oppression and materialism? I struggled with it for a while but I eventually developed a coping mechanism that helped me get past the feeling of guilt.

My coping mechanism was that in the expression of art, it is ok to have to contradict positions from time to time so I thought it ok to one day feel like Bob Marley and another day feel like Diddy.

Even the late great Tupac Shakur made records that if placed side by side are contradictory. Compare “Dear mama” to “Hit em up” for example, same artist, different emotions. That was how I coped with my own contradiction.

Truth is, people who are close to me know that I’m more of a Bob Marley than a Diddy. In my natural state, I’m more socially conscious than flashy. Much of my music doesn’t give off that vibe though, primarily because a lot of my music was made to cater to my audience.

We have a society that today finds justification for corruption, armed robbery and fraud…because it doesn’t matter anymore how you get it, just get it, and for no other reason than to flaunt it.

I made the song “big boy” and unwittingly contributed to the decay…I know better today

All Yahoo Boys Are Still Being Cheated By The Whites – Seun Kuti

Popular Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti has also taken to Twitter to give his own take about the trending discussion on Yahoo Boys.

The debate and discussions which erupted after men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided Club 57 in Lagos and arrested about 12 suspected internet fraudsters.

The debate about this issue which became viral after Nobel Igwe, a fashion enthusiast reacted by calling Yahoo boys fraudsters who are armed with laptops.

His opinion has since drawn criticism from other people including Seun Kuti who took to calling yahoo boys fools.

According to him, it is stupid of them to scam a white man and still end up spending the money on materials made by the same white man.

Seun Kuti wrote on Twitter;

”Wetin yahoo boy dey take money do? No be to buy expensive white man things? Lol. If they weren’t busy buying White man drink but building their communities maybe just maybe, I will see dem but I don’t.

We Didn’t Collect Money From Tekno – Danfo Drivers

Mountain Black of the popular Music group, Danfo Drivers have revealed in an interview that they didn’t collect money from Tekno to settle dispute with them.

Recall that Danfo Drivers have recently called out Tekno for remaking their hit song, Kponlogo, without properly seeking permission from them.

While speaking with GoldmyneTV, Mountain Black revealed that they have forgiven Tekno after he paid them a visit in Abuja on Wednesday. He however noted almost immediately that they didn’t collect money from him as compensation.

He said;

“We didn’t collect any money from Tekno; you can ask him. The deed has been done; we cannot reverse it any longer. He planned to release the video of the song last week.

He asked if he could go ahead and we gave him our permission. But I told him we could do a remix later.”

Mountain Black said they wouldn’t have spoken out angrily if he had treated them well. According to him, they had earlier agreed that they would see at the Eko Hotel in Lagos after the Headies Award but he refused to pick their calls.

“Why would you release a job without telling the owner of the song? When he called that he wanted to see us, I told him we were busy but we should meet at the Headies and he said it was okay.

We were invited for the Headies at the Eko Hotel and he lives very close.

On that day, we called him and he was not picking up. That was why I granted an interview where I said we were looking for Tekno.

“Last week Wednesday, he called that he was coming to see us in Abuja.

So, he came down to Abuja and apologised for what he did. I told him we were not interested in his money but we wanted him to work together with us as a team.”

MyMusic Song Review: Billion Dollar Woman – Madrina (Cynthia Morgan)

Like every other Monday, MyMusic will be reviewing a new Jam from one of Nigeria’s ace artist, Madrina A.K.A Cynthia Morgan

The crowned Queen of reggae and dancehall music in Nigeria recently released a new jam titled ‘Billion Dollar Woman’. This new Jam was released under her new stage name, Madrina and her own record label, The Cynthia Morgan Company, TCMC Global.

Without further ado, let’s see if the long break she took from the music scene was worthwhile. The artist who revealed she has been working for her fans I would say did not fall short of her fans expectations.

The beat of ‘Billion Dollar Woman’ was smooth and unique. It obviously was tweaked to blend well with the rhythm of the song. The beat sounded like someone understands what reggae sounds should be like.

As for the delivery, Madrina (Cynthia Morgan) delivered the song flawlessly. She has been known to be a talented artist since she stepped into stardom a few years back and she did not disappoint her already anxious fans.

I will leave the lyrics for you to judge all by yourself. The music video however was not short of our expectation which means her new offering is just dope all-round. It surely was worth the wait.

However, that Madrina is one of many females doing this genre of music even makes her new single better appreciated by her undissapointed fans.

So, what are you all waiting for? It’s time to enter into the Reggae spirit…

“I was the one that created an Instagram account for my mother but I did it to canvass for votes for a particular project at the time. She never used it after that and she never really had the password, so I do not know how she got a hold of the account.

My mother is a very funny person and the life of every party. I have always known this about her but everyone around me is just noticing that about her.

Most times, I don’t see her posts on time so my friends would call my attention to something she must have posted.

I feel it is cool that everyone is seeing that side of her. My mum has always been active on Facebook, so I am not surprised that she is now active on Instagram. She is a very funny person,”

MyMusic Song Review: Ebeano (Internationally) – Mr. P (Peter P-Square)

MyMusic will be reviewing another new jam today and this time it’s from Mr. P also known as Peter Psquare from the defunct Psquare group.

Mr. P recently released a new song titled ‘Ebeano’ which has since gone viral. Different arguments have also sprung up just about the same time as it release.

Many are of the opinion that the song is a special jam and many others are also of the opinion that its a regular jam and nothing really special. Well let’s find out if it is today…

The beat? Yes, the beat was produced by Kealz Beat. It is definitely apt and well suited for the song. It also definitely contributed to making the song danceable but its nothing special, it’s lower than my expectation as I have listened to better beats in the past and present.

The lyrics? The lyrics, I will commend was effortlessly and flawlessly delivered, i wasn’t expecting anything less though as the Psquare group had a long standing record. However, I didn’t sense creativity with the lyrics, it sounded like the father of two wanted to drop a song in a hurry.

Wrapped together, the song which is sure to be a club banger and a viral success can be enjoyed by everyone. This song is also sure to be a street anthem soon as one would easily dance shaku shaku style with it.

You can download this new jam ‘Ebeano’ by Mr. P on MyMusic to have a music blast today.

Sarz had earlier said on the Headies Awards stage, while receiving an award on behalf of Wizkid, that although the organizers of the award snubbed him at the recent 12th edition, he would be back the following year to claim the award for producer of the year.

K-Solo, however reacted to his comment by advising him to “leave Headies for new horns” and also went ahead to refer to Sarz as an ‘oldman’.

The producer, in reaction to the comment made by K-Solo, took it to another level while using some heavy, shady and insinuating words via a tweet which reads;

“Baba no use your irrelevance stain me.”
