Feature: Femi Kuti brings down the roof at Sunday Jump at the Afrika Shrine

Femi Kuti had the most phenomenal concert last night at the Afrikan Shrine Ikeja, where he performed nonstop for 3 hours straight, doling out hits after hits. At least 20 members were on stage at any one time and the brass section was as electrifying as the dancers or Femi . Femi just returned from London having attended the Notting Hill Carnival with his crew.

I found the concert very colourful with so many dancers all dressed in pristine afrocentric costumes. The brass section was also quite intriguing with about a 6-man team manning trombones, trumpets, a baritone saxophone and tenor/alto saxophones. A few celebrities were in attendance. I spotted Jezze Jagz grooving to the music, totally taken away by the sound.

One of the highlights of the night for me was a young lad, who sat at the back of the stage (not backstage) throughout the concert. He was definitely in another realm, seemingly intoxicated by the music or something else? He was constantly doling out chants on top of his voice, almost competing with the loudspeakers. This was a sweet sweet background lace to the beautiful afrobeat rhythms I was hearing.

I have always wanted to photograph Femi Kuti and it was indeed my first time taking pictures of this afrobeat king, a legend in his own right. There was so much movement, colours, lights and dynamism. It was tough! but it was worth it.

I hope you derive as much pleasure seeing the pictures as I did taking them:

All the Pictures from the Bantu Agberos International Album Launch at the Waterside Ikoyi

It was an evening of cool music and eclectic artistry at the Waterfront Ikoyi on August 6 2017 as the Bantu Crew launched their new album, Agberos International to a packed audience. The team performed hits from their album including Oni Temi, Lagos Barbie, Ma Kobami and combined it with their all time favourites such as No vernacular and Nibo la de.

There was a surprise visit by Majek Fashek and the evening was packed with celebrities and guests. Agberos International is certainly an album to get and we at MyMusic can’t get enough of the sound that has come to define the Live lagos scene.
