Burna boy wins the BET Best International Act 2019 Award

Burna boy has won the BET Best International Act 2019 Award. He beat nominees like Aka, Mr Eazi and Teni Entertainer. His mum picked up the award on his behalf and made a very arousing speech about how everything black originates from Africa.

“And the message from Burna I believe would be that every person should please remember that you were Africans before you were anything else. Thank you.”

Apparently, burnaboy had gone out for a quick drink while he was called up. The audience erupted in cheers after his mum’s acceptance speech on his behalf, and she got a standing ovation. A lot of social media reactions also trailed the speech. Marilyn Marlot on Instagram said:

“MANNNNNNN!!!!!! Burna Boy’s mom DESERVED that award. Period. Got me ready to fly back to the Motherland!

In an instagram post, he thanked his co-nominees saying we are all winners. Burna boy had been making waves over the years in Nigeria and globally, getting widespread acclaim after his hit single ‘like to party’ in 2012. His music has also been influenced heavily by the Afro-beat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti.

P.Diddy Endorses Falz’s ‘This is Nigeria’ Feature:

Falz has drawn massive attention to himself after his remake of Childish Gambino’s ‘This Is America’, titling his ‘This is Nigeria’. The song and video has sparked public reaction, even from US producer and business mogul, P. Diddy.

Some fans are lauding the brilliance of Falz in mirroring the major ills in government, addressing the SARS issue, reflecting on the popularly debated ‘Yahoo’ topic amongst other things happening in the Nigerian society through the video- which is similar to how Childish Gambino addressed issues in the American society in the original version.

As you would expect, some other fans have bashed Falz’s action, calling him a fraud and accusing him of stealing the idea but the rapper has reacted, saying that he only remade the original idea by Childish Gambino with the hope that it would have an effect of Nigerian society just as ‘This is America’ had an impact in the American society. He further urged his Nigerians to focus on the message, as it would serve as a call to action.

And in a new development, P.Diddy has come out to endorse Falz video. The foremost producer and businessman who is known to enjoy Nigerian music, especially Fela’s, took to his Instagram page to share Falz’s ‘This is Nigeria’ video. And he captioned it

‘✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 @falzthebahdguy #nigeriaLETS GO!!!!!!!’

Feature: Skales Walks Out Of His NETng Interview

Nigerian singer, Skales who is known as ‘The Never Say Never Guy’, due to his hardworking nature and resilience, has been all over the news for walking out of an interview with Victor Okpala after the latter implied that his hit track Booty Language was not “genius”.

In the video, Victor who claimed to be a fan of Skales, demanded to know why skales dropped rap for commercially inclined tracks like booty language which in his view, isn’t ‘genius’. After a little argument, Victor still stood his ground saying that “booty language” isn’t genius and skales who could be seen fuming up, couldn’t take it again thus prompting him to walk out.

Mixed reactions have since trailed the viral video with some people of the opinion that the interviewer overstepped his bounds while others seems to think Skales could have handled the issue in a more diplomatic manner.

We’ve chosen five top football inspired Nigerian songs that are perfect complements to the clubs, to share with you.

Loko Iya won

Massive success was achieved at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics for Nigeria. Dream team is a fitting description of this talented group that took the world by storm, earning gold medals in competition. Loko Iya won commemorates the event in grand style. Upon release, it became such a huge sensation and lyrics soon became household phrases. They stirred memories that fosters a sense of pride with a humorous poke at Argentina and Brazil. Adding a few well-placed ad libs leaves no doubt about Nigeria’s soccer win. Pride and victory are themes easy to pick out as you listen to resounding chants from Loko Iya won.

Gyrate – Tony One Week

Gyrate was written in 1996 and is another commemorative song in honor of the gold medal win at Atlanta.

This one was created by Tony Muanogor, also known as Tony One Week. He’s a celebrated politician, musician actor and comedian from Nigeria. Gyrate not only went viral but is still going strong today.

The title of this musical masterpiece pays homage to Nigeria’s star athletes. Milado wrote Walele which features Hilda Dokubo who ponders several past games of the popular Super Eagles. Video clips showcase player skill as well as multiple victorious moments. It’s still played today when there is a major competition going on.

All we are saying (Give us one goal)

Feature: MyMusic Throwback: Mo So Rire by Paul Play Dairo

‘Tongolo’ by D’Banj was for last week and we hope you had a Kokocious blast during the weekend but yet again we will be going back to listening to another blast from the past and that is ‘Mo so rire’ by Paul Play.

While you take a stroll through memory lane, i assume you remember that beautiful song you dance to gently while putting your hands on your head repeatedly. Yea, you got it, that song was soul lifting, right?

‘Mo so rire’ was originally sung by Paul Play father who was a legendary Juju musician but Paul play decided to revamp the song by singing it again while Kennis Music helped in pulling the strings. Well, it turned out beautiful, melodious and soulful as his soft-spoken vocals did justice to making it a fine tune.

‘Mo so rire’ talks about the many blessing of God and in return a song of thanksgiving to him, our creator. This tune is an evergreen song that can never go out of season. The lyrics were craftily put together to make it a song of thanksgiving and a prayer for oneself.

So here is what you will do, download the song, ‘Mosorire’ and dance like you would then while you sing it like you mean every word. Now, i guess you know this is the best tune you can get to usher you into the end of the week.

Have a fun filled blast!
