Davido and Wizkid feature on new single by Krept and Konan

London based artists Krept and Konan have featured Davido and Wizkid on their new released single, ‘Freak of the Week’. The track features other stars like Ice Prince, Fuse ODG and Jeremih.

Its quite a rare occurence to see these two guys together especially working on the same track which gives credence to some speculation that we might be seeing a Davido and Wizkid collabo at some point.

Krept and Konan are known for making an impact on the UK underground scene with their music, punch lines and metaphors and as of October 2013, the duo signed a record deal with Virgin EMI Records.

New Music Video Premiere: Melo Melo by Olamide

On the back of the recently released hit song “Bobo“, Olamide has decided to dazzle us with the video to his hot track “Melo Melo“, produced by Pheelz. This video is quite interesting in that the song has a traditional yoruba folk flavour to it while the video features a very traditional ballet dance session with white English dancers. This draws a very amusing metaphor watching two traditional art forms fusing together. Melo Melo is definitely going to be around for a long time as much as Olamide.

The video is directed by Moe Musa and set in a London warehouse.

MyMusic Lyrics: Protek – Amen

Nigerian gospel rapper, Protek has released a new tune, “Amen” to usher us into the new year.  This rap song is a follow up to his last single “Ayaya” which is still rocking the airwaves.

Sing-along with the lyrics below:

[Intro]

Holy Spirit, Father, Son

Bless this mic that I speak on

And everyone listening to my voice

May your days be long

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen

In Jesus name

Amen

[Verse1]

Am not basket mouth, but am Bright enough

To know that it’s no joke, that he died for us

And he rose of cause, from the grave because

He is the king of kings, with mad love for us

So it’s time to floss, And if you notice bros

Am ahead of my game, I can never lose

Plus the he in me, is greater, lives in me

The full God head, yeah you know the trinity

Am born again, they say have gone insane

The boy’s knot gone loose, someone grab a chain

And get him back his brain, cos he’s not the same

Boy we use to know back then, he done dey craze

Mehn am off the chains, a free man by grace

And now like James, demons hardly chase

It’s faith over fear, the past in the rare

A brand new man now, no more in despair.

[Chorus]

Holy Spirit, Father, Son

Bless this mic that I speak on

And everyone listening to my voice

May your days be long

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen,

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen

Ni oruko Jesu

Amin

[Verse 2]

MyMusic press mention in The Next Web – TNW

Despite the lack of venture capital, the extremely high costs of doing business in Nigeria and the sparse infrastructure, it seems that considerable effort has been exerted by Nigerians to overcome these problems and build new companies. In this year’s Web Summit two startups from Nigeria were selected to participate:MyMusic, an online music distribution platform that will be released later this year, and Insidify, a job aggregation website that integrates social media so that job seekers can have a unified search experience.

When asking Damola Taiwo co-founder of MyMusic, about his impressions of  the Web Summit he replied, “At the Summit, we met a lot of other startups and we were also lucky enough to get the opportunity to speak to investors. A few even had interest in African ventures. It’s true that we face infrastructural challenges and need to put in a little extra effort in order to build trust in our venture.”

As for Insidify, co-founder and CEO, Olamide Okeleji states, “We got some insight into what other start-ups around the world are doing – this we found enlightening.  As for the investors, the lack of experience with investing in Africa was a limiting factor. Nevertheless, we are in discussions with some of them.”

MyMusic attends Enterprise Ireland and Dublin City Council’s tour

We attended a tour organized by Enterprise Ireland. The first point of call was at the Mansion House where we were opportune to meet the Dublin Lord Mayor – Oisín Quinn and listened to his welcome address.

We then departed for various tech sites around dublin including Nova UCD (http://www.ucd.ie/innovation), Wayra (http://ie.wayra.org/en/academia/dublin) Google (www.google.ie) and ended up at Launchpad at NDRC (www.ndrc.ie).

On the coach we heard presentations from Mary Mulvihill from Ingenious Ireland, and she went into a brief history of Dublin in relation to the many inventions and breakthroughs that have taken place in the city.

MyMusic.com.ng exhibits at the Dublin Web Summit

The Web Summit has been an exciting experience from the point when we were interviewed on Skype in Nigeria to preparations, making the trip, actually attending and exhibiting. By exhibiting, we’ve been able to gain a lot of attention for our startup and indeed our country. We’ve been able to show the world that there is a sizeable amount of legitimate ventures actually coming from Nigeria and they should look out for more. We were one of only two startups both from Nigeria putting up representation for the entire sub Saharan Africa at the event and that meant a lot to us.

At the web summit, we met a lot of other startups and prospective partners and we’re sure a lot of alliances will be formed in the coming months after we’ve returned to our base.

We were also lucky enough to get the opportunity to speak to some investors some of whom actually had interest in African ventures.

There are a few challenges we’ve faced but our passion has been able to keep us going and sailing through. Some of these include infrastructural challenges and the need to put in extra effort to build trust.

The Western European tech scene right now is buzzing and exciting and we’ve been able to meet and interface with a few of them and exchange ideas. The future looks very bright I must say.

Visit to Facebook HQ Dublin

Today, we were invited by Facebook for a seminar titled FB Performance Marketing For Startups. This took place at the EMEA HQ at 5-7 Hanover Reach, Hanover Quay, Dublin 2.

We got to know about the exciting new marketing opportunities Facebook offers to new & promising startups.

The agenda included:

  • Lunch @ FB HQ
  • How to deliver performance marketing on FB
  • How FB can help to drive business outcomes for businesses
  • How FB can enable rapid growth, as evidenced by successful peers
  • Networking amongst likeminded companies
  • Face-to-face time with FB experts to go deeper on how FB can help us succeed
  • Tour of the Facebook EMEA HQ

It was a very interesting one that ended with breakout sessions.
